BOOKING SUMMER 2023

TAKING FLIGHT

Taking Flight warmly welcomes families, and specifically offers a fully accessible performance to blind and visually impaired audiences. It tackles environmental issues in a way that celebrates nature, friendship and how one can sustain the other. Audiences seated inside a huge bird's nest designed for tactile exploration, are invited into a rich and colourful world, brought to life through an immersive aural soundtrack and striking visuals using aerial performance.

Taking Flight is ideal for outdoor venues and with a small cast of only three performers, this show is perfectly suited for current government guidelines and safety measures. It celebrates connection and solidarity, not just with each other but with the nature that surrounds us.

Running at 25 minutes, it’s an ideal addition to an outdoor festival programme.

The integral soundscape captures the excitement and narrative of circus for those visually impaired in the audience, without the need for headsets, whilst mesmerising sighted audiences and opening the visual and colourful world to those with learning difficulties. Performances are followed by fully accessible participatory workshops and are preceded with touch tours open to all.

Taking Flight was co-commissioned by Deda Offsite and Birmingham Hippodrome, and funded by Arts Council England. The piece is now tour ready and we are seeking tour bookings 2021 & 2022, both nationally and internationally.

Taking Flight is a brave, experimental piece that tries to take a visual art form and make it accessible to the visually impaired. Its ambition is admirable, daring to take on a task that very few others have attempted.’

I managed to do some aerial after the performance, which only having the one leg can prove difficult, but not for RoguePlay. I have always wanted to do aerial work and they were so supportive.'
