SWING

Aerial poetry

Swing is a short piece of Circus Theatre merging static trapeze and physical theatre with poetry and little live guitar.

The students have been given great inspiration...the layout of the morning was excellent...great performance very original.

Gurd Ubhie, Small Heath School

The poetic narrative charts one woman’s journey from awkward adolescence to inner peace, from burying dead birds in her dad’s garden to becoming a medieval princess at a meditation retreat! A poignant physical exploration of one woman’s past and present, RoguePlay are currently working on two more short pieces using poetry that will make the work a trilogy entitled 'Swings, Waves and Escapades.'

Swing is great for an educational setting, particularly dealing with ideas of fear and risk-taking. The 20 minute performance can be followed by a workshop, which in turn can be from 40 mins up to 1hr 40 mins depending on your school timetable. The workshop enables students to explore physical theatre techniques and begin to work through how narrative can be weaved into the physicality in order to produce a short piece of their own by the close of the longer workshops. The group also have an opportunity to talk to the Company in order to questions.

We can accommodate you at our space for the performance and workshop or if you have the capacity at your school to hang a trapeze then we can bring it to you. We will of course discuss what we need to hang a trapeze with you.
