AERIAL ANATOMY.....'ANATOMY OF THE AIR'
Aerial & Bodywork Intensive
A 3-DAY PROGRAMME BASED ON SKILL DEVELOPMENT, POSTURAL ASSESSMENT, INJURY PREVENTION AND SELF & PARTNER REMEDIAL MASSAGE.
8th-10th October 2018 @ Flying Fantastic, London (£180)
Designed for teachers and higher level students who are keen to develop their higher level skill set whilst learning about the muscular and skeletal systems of the body. The course will help you gain more understanding of the strains on muscles, connective tissue and fascia in aerial practice, highlighting and improving areas of weakness and gaining the ability to assess yourself and self massage. All delivered through looking at skill development and higher level movements, including side planche, roll ups and dislocs, whilst understanding the strains during these moves and building up to them safely. The course provides building blocks for safe conditioning and drills that are stepping stones to greater strength, mobility and stabilisation to achieve a higher level of skill, and support your own students safely.
The course is primarily based on the verticals; silk, rope and straps, and delivered by both Kim Charnock and Adrian Thomas.
Kim is the artistic director of RoguePlay Theatre, a renowned aerial theatre company based in Birmingham, UK. With 9 years experience in aerial and circus direction, Kim is known for her strong dynamic technique on verticals, and her fluid originality on the most romantic of the aerial arts; silk.
Kim has a passion for the creation of innovative new work, particularly experimenting with the combination of aerial movement and text and has performed extensively across the UK for companies such as Channel 4, Nofit State, Xbox and Panasonic. Teaching masterclasses far and wide Kim is a lover of tricky transitions, dislocs and rolling.
Adrian is a level 5 qualified remedial therapist specialising in working with circus artists. He graduated from the Active School of Complementary Therapy (ASCT) in 2013 gaining a BTEC Level 5 Diploma in clinical sports and remedial massage. This is currently the highest qualification that can be held in the UK, recognised nationally and in many other countries.
Both his own sporting life as well as working directly with circus teachers and students from his treatment room at the West Midlands Creation Centre, gives Adrian a genuine understanding of the body and how important it is to keep it in good shape in order to continue doing what you do. His primary concern is to help his clients keep training and keep working, whilst reducing their pain, helping them to recover quickly and equipping them with the knowledge they need to move their practice forwards.
The intensive is extremely practical and hands on, working aerially for both the skills training and bodywork elements alike. Participants all receive a certificate of participation to show how many hours training they have engaged in and the work covered.
The course is suitable for all those training or teaching in the aerial arts, with at least 2 years aerial practice experience.
